Walton’s Inc. signs up as Sponsor for Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors, Inc.

Wichita, KS, January 6, 2022.  Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors announced today that Walton’s Inc. has stepped up to sponsor the Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors Shooting Sports Outreach Program. Launched in Kansas in 2019, the Shooting Sports Outreach Program engages high school and college student-athletes involved in the shooting sports with hunting and fishing opportunities.

“With support from great companies like Walton’s, we are able to expand our efforts to bridge the gap between target shooting and hunting,” stated Mike Christensen, President of Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. “In just 2 years, we’ve been able to grow from one full-time coordinators in Kansas to 2 full-time coordinators in Kansas and one full-time coordinator in Iowa.”  

“We are excited to continue our support of Pass It On -Outdoor Mentors,” stated Brett Walton, President of Walton’s Inc. "Their goal of getting more kids outdoors and having an additional mentor in their life is something we are very passionate about.  “In 2019, Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors kicked off the Shooting Sports Outreach Program with 89 hunts involving over 220 youth from 44 different high schools across Kansas. During the 2020 hunting seasons, we added one part-time coordinator and boosted the number of hunts to 206, engaging over 600 youth,” said Brittany French, Director of Field Operations for Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors. “For 2021, we expect to field 300 hunts in Kansas and with our new staff on the ground in Iowa another 60 hunts there.”

Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors is working with student athletes from the USA Clay Target League and the Scholastic Clay Target Program. “Many of these youth have taken hunter safety, they have been taught hands-on safe gun handling and have learned one of the basic skills needed to hunt,” Brittany said. “Our goal is to increase their interest and motivation to hunt by providing as many different hunting opportunities as we possibly can.”

Brittany further indicated that, “Our goals with this program are to 1) recruit new hunters by giving those who don’t currently hunt opportunities to pursue upland game, waterfowl, turkey and deer; 2) retain current hunters by giving those youth trap shooters and their parents who are currently hunters the opportunity to engage in more hunting activities; and 3) to reactivate parents and coaches who want to participate in these hunting activities. This model can be applied to numerous different cohorts in hopes to inspire others to have a passion for hunting and fishing.”

To accomplish this, Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors partners with local chapters of NGO’s, the state fish and wildlife agency and private landowners to provide access and volunteers and mentors who assist with the events.

Wichita, KS, October 25, 2021--- Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. was awarded $5,000.00 in a grant from the Topeka based Justin Corbet Memorial Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. This money will be used to further the Shooting Sports Outreach Program, aimed at engaging high school and college trap shooting athletes with opportunities to hunt.

 Justin Corbet was a young man, whose life was tragically cut short, who truly loved the great outdoors and shooting sports. The Justin Corbet Memorial Shooting Sports Foundation, a 50l(c)(3) corporation, is dedicated to his memory and is committed to providing leadership, support and financial assistance to qualified programs and individuals dedicated to providing family-oriented hunting, shooting and educational activities to youth, women and persons with disabilities. Over 3,400 young people will benefit from their assistance this year.

 The Justin Corbet Memorial Shooting Sports Foundation was established in late 2005 by family friends and associates who share Justin's love of the out-of-doors and a willingness to help others with the experience. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $225,000 to qualified organizations.

Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. Receives Grant From The Iowa Chapter of Safari Club International

Wichita, KS, October 8, 2021.  Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors announced today the Iowa Chapter of SCI has awarded a 2-year grant to Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors to further their Shooting Sports Outreach Program in Iowa. Launched in Kansas in 2019, the Shooting Sports Outreach Program engages student-athletes involved in the shooting sports with hunting and fishing opportunities.

“Last fall, we piloted our Shooting Sports Outreach Program in Iowa at the request of the IA DNR” stated Mike Christensen, President of Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. “Now, with the continued support of the IA DNR and with the additional support of the Iowa Chapter of SCI, we have a Program Coordinator on the ground in Iowa, working to give trap shooting high school and college youth opportunities to go afield, hunting.”  

“The Iowa Chapter of SCI is excited to work with Pass It On-Outdoor Mentors, Inc Program in Iowa.  We believe this mentoring program will be instrumental in increasing hunter participation in Iowa which is one of our Chapter’s primary goals.”

Launched in Kansas in 2019, the Shooting Sports Outreach Program engages student-athletes involved in the shooting sports with hunting and fishing opportunities.

“Thanks to the generosity of Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris and the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors will be able to expand our efforts to get more youth outdoors, hunting and fishing,” stated Mike Christensen, President of Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. “We are grateful to have an organization like the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund lending their support to our efforts.”

Between the Scholastic Clay Target Program and the National High School Clay Target League, there are more than 40,000 high school student-athletes participating in trap shooting nationwide. The Shooting Sports Outreach Program aims to provide hunting and fishing opportunities to as many of these youth as possible.

Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors has been engaged in recruiting mentors for at-risk youth since its beginnings in 2002. In the second year of our new Shooting Sports Outreach Program, Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors more than doubled the number of hunts and participants from the first year of the program, fielding over 200 hunts with over 550 participants.

Wichita, KS, May 12, 2021.  Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors was awarded $10,000.00 in a grant from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Torstenson Family Endowment Hunting Heritage Grant Program.  These funds will be used to expand the rapidly growing Shooting Sports Outreach Program to engage participants in high school and college shooting sports in hunting activities.

Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors has been engaged in recruiting mentors for at-risk youth since it’s beginnings in 2002. RMEF was one of the first to step up and help launch the outdoor mentoring efforts of Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors in 2002. In the second year of our new Shooting Sports Outreach Program, Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors more than doubled the number of hunts and participants from the first year of the program, fielding over 200 hunts with over 550 participants.
